Classic Hong Kong Delights at Honolulu Café, The Centrepoint. Image courtesy of Honolulu Café

Speaking of cafes, if you’ve always loved Hong Kong’s Cha Chaan Teng vibes where you get served British-Meets-Chinese old-school Hong Kong snacks in a no-frills coffee-shop setting, you should make a bee-line to Honolulu Café (#01-33F/G). In terms of authenticity, this is the best place for true Cha Chaan Teng chow mainly because the café was founded in 1940s Hong Kong and has always been a favourite among the locals!

The must-try at Honolulu Café is their famous egg-tarts, which go so well with their other specialty – Hong Kong Milk Tea. Their egg tarts are known to have a soft, silky custard centre, held together by a flaky, crispy pasty made of 192 layers (we dare you to count!). And, if you are looking to have a meal, you can try other drool-worthy Hong Kong classics like Curry Fish Balls, Toast with Scrambled Eggs or Instant Noodle with a ham, luncheon meat or barbecue pork.

Of course, this list won’t be complete without desserts.

End your day with a warm, soothing black sesame dessert at Ji De Chi, The Centrepoint. Image Courtesy of Ji De Chi

We highly recommend Ji De Chi (#02-K02) for some hot and cold after-meal sweetness. They are best known for their classic Hong-Kong style desserts like steamed egg, beancurd, sesame and almond paste, glutinous rice balls, and mango and pamelo sago.

A must-try is their Snowy Ice dessert, which is similar to ice-kachang in height and concept, but uses a different texture of ice that’s oh-so creamy, airy and snowy. The best part of it is that Snowy Ice comes with all kinds of yummy toppings like chunky fresh fruits, mini rice balls, crunchy peanuts, and more! For the durian lovers however, go for the Durian Snow Ice, Durian in Sticky Rice Roll or the Durian with Pamelo Sago. You won’t regret it.

A hearty brunch at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf is also a possibility! Image courtesy of The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf

The Centrepoint also has other relaxing spots – perfect for not-so-formal meetings like newly opened The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (#01-33C/D), or long-time favourites Starbucks (#01-41/42) and Han’s (#01-53/56).

End Your Meal with Fluffiness and Happiness.

Comfort is something you can find in abundance at The Centrepoint, especially after a long day of shopping.

Besides their all-day-breakfast pancakes, you can end your date at Gelaré (#03-K01), a family-favourite waffle and ice-cream ‘cafe’. What better way to prolong a date than with a fancy dessert everyone can dig into!

They actually serve really well-made (and freshly-made) waffles that come crispy on the outside, and warm and soft on the inside. Image courtesy of Gelaré, The Centrepoint

If your kid’s birthday is coming, plan a birthday party at Gelaré as they also offer plenty of kids’ favourites like pastas, sandwiches, salads, and, for the parents, freshly brewed, gourmet coffee!

One thing you need to know about Gelaré though is that they actually specialise in making their special ice-cream which is creamier and thicker than even Italian gelato. Their secret is that they make their ice cream with NO air in it – did you know that most ice creams contain as much as 50% of air in them?

We’re not done yet! Stay tuned for more yummy options at The Centrepoint.
